Abound Soccer Rules and Regulations: Season 7

Team composition: The play for each team will be 6 players vs. 6 players on the field. There is a minimum requirement of ONE female player on the field for each team at all times*. Each goal scored by a female player counts as 2 points. There is no limit to the amount of female players a team may have on the field at a time.

Game duration: Two 20-minute halves, with a 5-minute halftime break. Each team is allowed one 1-minute timeout per half.

Substitutions: Substitutions can be made at any time during the game.

Uniform: All players must wear shin guards, for their own safety, while playing. All players must be wearing their ‘Abound’ issued team shirts during games, or a shirt of the same color as their team in order to play.

Game Rules:

  • No slide tackles.

  • Throw-ins.

  • 2 points for every goal scored by a female player.

  • Fouls and free kicks: Fouls are called for tripping, pushing, holding, or other infringements. The fouled team is awarded a free kick from the spot of the foul.

  • Penalty kicks: Penalty kicks are awarded for fouls committed within the penalty area.

  • If a team accumulates 5 fouls, the opposing team will be awarded a penalty kick.

Team Attendance:

  • A minimum of 5 players on a team is required for a game to start.

  • *A team with 5+ male players and no present female players, must play with one less player until a female arrives to take the 6th player position.

  • If a team does not have 5 players, 3 minutes before the stated game time (i.e. game start time 7:05 - players must be on the field at least by 7:02), that team will forfeit the match as a 3-0 loss to the opposing team.

Sportsmanship: Fair play, respect for opponents, and adherence to the rules are essential. Unsportsmanlike conduct, such as swearing, verbal abuse, or aggressive behavior, is not tolerated and will result in disciplinary action.

Fair Play ‘Blue Cards’: The values of Abound are what makes this league unlike any other adult recreational sports league. To further promote these values in all that we do, this season’s champion will be determined by the accumulation of newly instated ‘Blue Cards’.

Blue Cards will result as a consequence of displays of ‘Fair Play’ during a game. These cards, similar to yellow or red disciplinary cards, will be at the discretion of the referee calling the particular match.

Examples of Blue Card actions:

  • Admitting to an in-game infraction

  • Helping an opposing player who has fallen, off of the ground

  • Stopping play for an injured player

  • Signs of respect between players after harsh challenges

Any and all disputes regarding Blue Cards will be ignored as the purpose of these cards is to CREATE COMMUNITY AND NOT COMPETITION.

The team with the most Blue Cards at the end of the first 6 games will be crowned as the Abound Season 7 Blue Card Champion.

Disciplinary Action: If a player is to receive a yellow card, the player will be removed from the game for a penalty of 2 minutes. The disciplined player’s team will play with one less player on the field during the 2 minutes. Once the 2 minutes are over, any player from the penalized team may enter the game.

If a player is to receive a red card, either through card accumulation or direct booking, the player will be removed from the game and the penalized team will play with one less player for the remainder of the game. A 1 game suspension will be handed to the player and a conversation will be held with the player in question, their team captains, and the coordinator of the league.

Referees: All referees are volunteers and are associated with the league and its values.  Players will speak to referees with respect and will refrain from harassing the referees after a decision is made. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to, a verbal warning, a yellow card, a red card, and or game suspension determined by the league coordinator in conversation with the referee and team captains.

If a player has a serious concern about a referee or an in-game decision made, please direct any and all of these concerns to the league coordinator.
